Liverpool's response after Mohamed Salah misses out on Ballon d'Or

Salah finishes fourth in Ballon d'Or rankings

Mohamed Salah narrowly missed out on a place in the top three at the 2025 Ballon d’Or ceremony, finishing fourth after a remarkable individual season. The Liverpool forward produced an outstanding 57 goal contributions across all competitions last year, playing a decisive role in guiding the Reds to the Premier League title. It marked the Egyptian’s highest-ever finish in the Ballon d’Or rankings, though it still left him just outside the podium places.

Liverpool’s heartfelt tribute to their star man

Liverpool were quick to show their appreciation for Salah after the results were revealed. Posting across their official social media channels, the club shared a message that read: “A season to savour from Salah,” alongside a red heart emoji. The post was accompanied by a series of images highlighting his achievements from the 2024/25 campaign.

Celebrating a season of success

The first image featured Salah proudly sitting in front of the Kop on the final day of last season, surrounded by a collection of his individual honours: Premier League winners’ medal, Golden Boot, Playmaker award, Premier League Player of the Season trophy, and the Football Writers’ Association award. Further photos showed him lifting the league title, celebrating goals, and collecting more accolades such as the PFA Player of the Year.

Support from team-mates and fans

Several current and former Liverpool players, including Conor Bradley and Ryan Gravenberch, reacted positively to the tribute by engaging with the post. Fans also flooded the comments with messages of support, emphasising Salah’s importance to the club despite the Ballon d’Or outcome.

Dembele claims top prize ahead of Salah

Paris Saint-Germain’s Ousmane Dembele was crowned Ballon d’Or winner after helping the French side secure a historic treble of Ligue 1, Coupe de France and the Champions League. Barcelona teenager Lamine Yamal claimed second place following a domestic clean sweep in Spain, while PSG midfielder Vitinha rounded off the top three. Despite Salah’s impressive numbers, the Egyptian had to settle for fourth place in world football’s most prestigious individual award.

Rather than celebrating in front of the home crowd at St James’ Park, Gordon quickly retrieved the ball from the net, desperate to spark a comeback. His strike, however, wasn’t enough as Eddie Howe’s side slipped to a 2-1 defeat, with Marcus Rashford’s brace proving decisive. Missed chances prove costly for Newcastle
